Impressive Key Stage 1 Results
Our infant school children exceeded targets for English and Science, and reached or exceeded targets for Maths.
The aim of our infant school is to provide your child with the best start to their education, within a caring, but disciplined, environment. Small class sizes ensure your child receives a high level of attention from our staff.
The Infant Department caters for children in Reception and Years 1 and 2.
The curriculum is based on National Guidelines for Key Stage 1 and all pupils in Year 2 take their Key Stage 1 tests in May.
The Reception curriculum is based on the six areas of learning – Personal and Social Development, Language and Literacy, Maths, Physical and Creative Development, and Knowledge and Understanding of the World. The curriculum in the Infant Department is more subject based and offers a broader range. The subjects include:
Art - Drama - English - Geography - History - Maths - Music - P.S.E - RE - Science
The children still have practical experiences within subjects as well as the more structured written work.
Specialist Subject Teaching
Some subjects are taught by specialist teachers and these are:
French - I.C.T. - P.E
The core subjects of English and Maths are taught daily and great emphasis is placed on the importance of reading, spelling, handwriting, number bonds and tables.
The children have homework each night which always includes reading, as well as a range of other tasks.
